COMMUNITY GUIDEBOOK PROFILE: Hepatitis B Foundation
The Hepatitis B Foundation (HBF) – located right here in Bucks County – is the only national non-profit organization solely dedicated to finding a cure and improving the quality of life for those affected by hepatitis B worldwide.
A world-class research center, their commitment includes funding focused research, promoting disease awareness while supporting immunization and treatment initiatives.
HBF serves as the primary source of information for patients and their families, the medical and scientific community and the general public.
Each year HBF's award-winning Web site (www.hepb.org) receives one million visits, trained counselors answer hundreds of email and telephone requests, their free publications provide the latest news and the annual meetings they sponsor are highly respected. Said meetings include the national B Informed Patient Conference and Princeton HBV Workshop, and the International HBV Meeting.
Their successful advocacy initiatives have resulted in a U.S. Congressional resolution declaring the first National Hepatitis B Awareness Week and introduction of the first-ever hepatitis B legislation in Congress – The National Hepatitis B Act.
HBF is located in the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center of Bucks County that it established as a place of discovery, education, job creation and to significantly increase its research capabilities and accelerate the pace of research towards finding a cure for hepatitis and liver cancer. With the expanded laboratories and research partners, HBF can maximize synergies between non-profit scientists and their commercial colleagues in a mission-focused environment.
Student internships, research fellowships and academic opportunities are offered by HBF to help build the ranks of young scientists dedicated to hepatitis research.
